Walnut Hills Elementary School 2024 Spelling Bee🐝
Dear WAL Families,
We are thrilled to share that our students had an incredible time participating in this year’s Spelling Bee! It was a fun, exciting, and challenging experience for everyone, and we couldn’t be prouder of how each student gave their best effort. You should be just as proud of them too!
A special congratulations goes out to Charlie Christofferson, Avyansh Ojha, and Eliana Choi, who will be representing Walnut Hills at the District Spelling Bee on Friday, January 31, 2025. Their dedication and hard work have truly paid off!
Once again, we are so proud of all our students for their outstanding effort, and we appreciate the support you’ve given them throughout this experience!
Kindly,
Walnut Hills 🐾

Support our teachers by clearing their Amazon wish lists for their classroom!
If you’re looking for a way to support your child’s teacher this time of year, consider buying an item off of their Amazon wish list! Our amazing teachers created school supply lists at the beginning of the year that they have since updated, and many have items listed that they’d love to receive and implement in the classroom. Head over to www.whptco.org/wish-lists to browse the Amazon wish lists of Walnut Hills Elem. staff and help Clear the List!
Mark your calendars for Winter Game Night on Jan. 24!

Author Visit for 1st - 3rd Grade!
We have another exciting Author Visit planned at Walnut Hills for January 14, 2025! Our 1st through 3rd grade students will be visited by Kentrell Martin. Kentrell is the author of the Shelly Goes book series. He will read one of his books with the students and include an interactive lesson in American Sign Language (ASL).
Students will learn around 40 ASL signs, including animal names, colors, numbers and greetings.
Growing up with a Deaf brother, Mr. Martin saw how the world viewed Deaf people. He created Shelly’s Adventure series as a company that will play a part in helping bridge the gap between the Deaf and the hearing worlds. Now he travels the country reading his books and teaching ASL to students.
We are very excited to host Kentrell Martin here at Walnut Hills!

Holiday Season and School Attendance: A Reminder
As the holidays approach, we know many families have exciting plans, but we want to remind you of the importance of maintaining regular school attendance during this time. The weeks before the break are often filled with critical lessons, assessments, and preparations for the new term. Missing school can create gaps in learning that are difficult to catch up on. Make-up work does not fully help students recover missed instruction, and one student’s absence impacts classmates’ progress due to the collaborative nature of learning.
Every school day counts in helping your child grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We encourage you to plan travel and events around the school calendar whenever possible. If you know your child will be absent, please let us know in advance so we can support their continued learning.
Thank you for helping us meet our attendance goals. Wishing you a joyful and safe holiday season!
A message from CCSD November Donation Drive
Dear WAL Families,
We are thrilled to share that the November Donation Drive was a great success, and we wanted to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude to each and every one of you who participated. Your generosity and support have made a meaningful impact on our community, and we truly appreciate your contributions.
The success of this drive would not have been possible without the time, effort, and kindness shown by your contributions. Every donation, big or small, helps us provide valuable resources and opportunities those in need!
Thank you again for your participation.
Parent Engagement Opportunities
P.A.S.S
Cherry Creek School District is committed to Inclusive Excellence which means raising the achievement of ALL students, closing the gap between the highest and lowest performing students, and eliminating the predictability of achievement by race.
Partnerships for Academically Successful Students (P.A.S.S) is a committee of school and family leaders that supports the district's goal of Inclusive Excellence. P.A.S.S provides a place to share resources and ideas while fostering the intentional building of relationships between the school and parent communities in an effort to create an inclusive learning environment for ALL students.
Walnut Hills Elementary families are always invited to attend our monthly meetings, and if you were part of our P.A.S.S team in previous years we would love for you to rejoin the team.
Our next P.A.S.S meeting is Tuesday January 28th, 2025
